Pave more roads
Letter to the Editor: The Advertiser
In 2006, the Black Rock Road was repaved from Highway 221 in Grafton to Highway 1 in Waterville. I spearheaded a petition with over 250 names protesting the disgraceful state of the highway and thanks to Kings West MLA Leo Glavine and Kings North MLA Hon. Mark Parent, the Black Rock Road saw $1.5 million in funding.
But, the MacDonald Tory government has forgotten the rest of the Black Rock Road and the safety of the North Mountain residents. The road had been promised to have three phases of repaving but, I have received a letter from DOT explaining the Black Rock Road will not be receiving and repaving this year.
Wednesday, July 4, 2007, Minister Jamie Muir stated in a provincial daily that if we reduce taxes four cents, what roads do we not want to get upgraded, what hospitals do we want closed?
The bottom line is, I want the roads in rural Kings County to be safe and for my kids to travel on a safe road on their school bus.
The current state of the Black Rock Road on the North Mountain is a disgrace and what is the Hon. Mark Parent of Kings North going to do about it? Premier Rodney
MacDonald has said over and over again the province needs all the gas tax revenue for its roadwork. So, I ask this question: ‘Why are the residents of the Black Rock Road living on the North Mountain being treated like second class residents. Who buys more gasoline fuel, the person living in town or the person living in a rural community? Who pays more gasoline taxes per year?
Junk gas regulation or pave more rural roads. Common sense should say, “Roads to resources.”
All the best.
