Windsor Court Report
Jailed for break-ins
An Ontario man is off to jail for break-ins he committed at Hants County businesses earlier this month.
Lawrence Richard Dube, 30, St. Catherines, Ont., pleaded guilty in Windsor provincial court Monday, Sept. 17 to break, entry and theft at a Windsor drugstore and a Garland’s Crossing store.
Judge Alan Tufts sentenced Dube to one year in custody for each of the break-ins, to be served concurrently. Dube committed the break-ins Sept. 11.
High blood-alcohol readings
Walton resident John Edward Judge, 45, pleaded guilty Sept. 17 to having care and control of a motor vehicle while his blood-alcohol level exceeded the legal limit – in fact, by nearly three times.
Judge Tufts fined Judge $900 plus a $135 victim surcharge, or 17 days in custody on willful default, and prohibited him from driving in Canada for a year.
The Nova Scotia Registry of Motor Vehicles will at least match that ban for Judge driving in the province.
Judge committed the offense in Hants County June 23 when police found he had blood-alcohol readings of 240 and 230 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.
The legal limit is 80 mg/100 ml.
Probation for assault, fine for breach
Judge Tufts suspended sentencing on Hants County resident Shawn Garrison Hazel, 22, Tuesday, Sept. 18 for a conviction of assault and imposed a term of one-year reporting probation on him.
One probationary condition is that Hazel take any assessment, counselling or treatment Corrections officials recommend.
The judge also fined Hazel $300 plus a $45 victim surcharge, or five days in custody on willful default, for failing to comply with a court undertaking.
Hazel committed the assault in Windsor between April 1, 2006 and March 31, 2007. He committed the breach May 7 when he failed to refrain from possessing and/or consuming alcoholic beverages.
Hazel pleaded guilty to the charges May 29.
