A couple of drug busts at alleged grow operations in the county have netted some cannabis marijuana plants and four suspects. Similar operations are expected as investigations continue into the harvest season.
Kings RCMP and the (RCMP-Kentville Police Service) Street Crime Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant and conducted a search at a Cambridge residence Friday, Sept. 14, netting 29 mature marijuana plants in and outside the property as well as an amount of grow operation equipment.
As a result of the search at that scene, police charged two adults – a man and a woman – each with unlawful production of cannabis marijuana, a Schedule II drug under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
The following day, Kings RCMP members executed a second warrant and conducted a search at a Greenwood residence, arresting another man and woman, charging each with unlawful marijuana production and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The suspects have been released on conditions and are scheduled to be in court on their respective appearance dates next month and in November. Police found no firearms at either scene.
Kings RCMP spokesman Cst. Les Kakonyi said that such actions are ongoing, “especially this time of year with harvesting. This is generally the time when people give us tips and we get other information on grow operations.”
Kakonyi said that police welcome tips and information from the public. He noted that some people are checking their property and find that someone has a grow operation there.
