The suspense of whether Dwight d’Eon would move forward to the Top 9 ended quickly Wednesday night as the West Pubnico singer and Tara Oram from Newfoundland were the first two competitors to be told they had survived the elimination round.

This means d’Eon will be back on stage Monday night for the Music of the ‘60s-themed performance night.

And back for another results show on Tuesday.(During the summer performance nights will be on Mondays and results shows on Tuesdays.)

D’Eon moved ahead following his performance this week of Matchbox 20’s ‘Unwell.’

He also got to interact with recording artist Rihanna who performed her number one single ‘Umbrella’ on the CTV show. During a Q&A session with the Idol competitors, d’Eon complemented Rihanna on the hit song and asked her how she selected the songs to be included on her album.

Tens of thousands of votes – the actual number unknown – came out of the region Tuesday night for d’Eon this week. Aside from calls coming out of people's homes, businesses opened their doors and phones to d’Eon supporters so they could maximize their voting numbers. Diehard d’Eon supporters say they were able to get out 3,000…4,000, even 8,000 votes out from these locations.

While there is little doubt d’Eon’s biggest support base is local, his support spills well beyond southwestern Nova Scotia and the province itself. Scrolling through members of ‘d’Eon Nation’ on Facebook are addresses in Saint John, N.B., Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Winnipeg and Kamloops, B.C.

This week’s bottom three performers on Idol were Mila Miller of Ontario, Montreal’s Khalila Glanville and Mission, B.C.’s Carly Rae Jepsen.

Miller, who had performed Stevie Wonder’s ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’ received the lowest amount of votes and was the contestant eliminated from the show.

Two and a half million votes came in for the competitors this week.

While the Canadian Idol finals started out with three competitors from Nova Scotia at the Top 22 stage, d'Eon is the only remaining competitor from the province.
