NKEC hosted Horton in Valley High School Rugby League action Tuesday afternoon in Canning. The Griffins won 45-5, earning their first victory of the season, but the Titans made a little history, scoring their first even-strength try in their two-plus seasons in the league.
The Horton girls' rugby team picked up its first win of the VHSRL regular season, topping the NKEC Titans 45-5 Tuesday afternoon in Canning.
Zoe Croke and Emily West each had a pair of tries for the Griffins. Emily King, Kaitlyn Blaat-Jaanmatt and Brianna Cook added single scores, and Kathleen Newcombe was good on five of seven convert attempts to round out the scoring.
Head coach Dave Galloway termed his team's performance "more the kind of game, and the kind of team spirit, that we want to see."
Neely MacBurnie had the lone NKEC try, scored late in the game. It marked the first even-strength try scored by the Titans in their two-plus seasons in the league.
