Lopsided win over Tigers rounds out Axemen’s weekend

The Axemen completed a weekend sweep with a 6-1 win over Dalhousie Saturday night on home ice.

Acadia took an early lead with three goals in the first period from Mike Cazzola, Michael Clarke and Tyler Makin.

The Tigers’ Francois Gauthier netted the visitors’ only goal of the game at the 11:01 of the second period, before Travis Gibbons, Cazzola and Liam Heelis pounded in another three for the Axemen.

Dal goalie Bobby Nadeau fended off another 47 shots from the Axemen offence, earning the second star of the game honours. Cazzola and Brett Thompson  - who had three assists - were first and third stars, respectively.

Acadia’s Brandon Glover made 17 saves in the win.

The Axemen host Moncton Feb. 14 and conference-leading UNB Feb. 15 to finish out the regular season.
