The Valley Midget AAA Wildcats have dug themselves a bit of a hole in losing the first two games of their playoff series with South Shore Mustangs on home ice.

The Mustangs won game one 4-1 Feb. 1 in Berwick, then pulled out a 4-3 victory the following afternoon.

On Feb. 2, Jered Scott’s even-strength goal with 1:15 remaining in the third period snapped a 3-3 tie and gave South Shore the victory.

The late goal spoiled a nice comeback effort from the Wildcats. Trailing 3-0 after two periods, Valley struck for three unanswered third period goals from Eli Hughes, Michael Dill and Alex Rawding to tie things up.

Final shots on goal were 38-28 in favour of Valley, with Colby Muise turning in a strong performance in the Mustangs’ goal. Mike Pettet stopped 24 of 28 shots at the other end.

The Wildcats needed a solid performance for 60 minutes on Feb. 2 after dropping the series opener 4-1. Makail Parker had the lone Valley marker. The Wildcats had a narrow 29-28 edge in shots on goal.

The best-of-seven series resumes Feb. 8 in Bridgewater, an 8:30 p.m. start, with game four scheduled for Feb. 9 at 5 p.m.
