The Barrington Sea Star Ice Dogs have taken a 2-0 lead in their best of five quarter final series in the Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League against the Avon River Rats.
Barrington opened the series at home on Jan. 31 with a 5-3 win over Avon. Jevon Link and Morgan d’Entremont each posted two goals for the Ice Dogs, with one from Robert Surette. For the River Rats, Tyler Young had a pair of markers, with one from Stuart Whidden. In net, Avon’s Matt McMinn had 49 saves, while the Dogs’ Tyler Brannen had 24.
The Sea Star squad made it 2-0 with a 7-3 victory over the River Rats on Feb. 1, also in Barrington. Nathan Townsend, Tyler Quinlan and Keigan Atwood had two markers each, with one from Jared Murphy. Matt Lyttle, Tyler Young and Shayne Gillis were the Avon marksmen. In net, McMinn had 39 saves. Brannen stopped 25.
The series continues this weekend with Barrington travelling to Windsor for game three on Friday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and game four (if necessary) on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 7:15 p.m. Game five if necessary is on tap for Sunday, Feb. 9 in Barrington at 2:30 p.m.
In the other quarterfinal series, the South Shore Wild and the Fundy Rhinos are tied at 1-1, while the Amherst Colts are leading the Clare Lions 2-0. Both those series also continue this weekend.
The Spryfield Silver and Black Attack have a buy for the first playoff round.
