YCMHS Vikings win Game 1 of series with Barrington Barons; Game 2 goes Feb. 2

The Yarmouth Vikings won game 1 of the best-of-three game Southwest Nova Scotia High School League series over the Barrington Barons by a score of 4-3 on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Barrington Arena.

Game 2 of the series is being played at 11:30 a.m. at the Mariners Centre in Yarmouth on Sunday, Feb. 2.

The Vikings jumped out to a 3-0 lead on first period goals by Maguire Breton (Ray Jacquard, Will Churchill) and Ray Jacquard (Luc Lacroix) and a second period goal by Will Churchill (Sam Boudreau).

The Barons answered back with two goals in the second period by Justyn Newell (Bret Penney) and Cameron Atwood (Kegin Penney). The Barons tied the score 3-3 at 10:31 in the third period. With around two minutes left in the game Jacob Surette (Maguire Breton) scored what would be the winning goal for the Vikings.

The Barons pulled their goalie for the extra attacker in the final minute but couldn’t find the back of the Vikings net. In net for the Mariners was Matias Nyyssonen.

The winner of this series will advance to the league championship final series.
