Best of five, quarter final playoff action in the Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League will get underway this weekend.
The Barrington Sea Star Ice Dogs will open their series against the Avon River Rats on Friday (Jan. 31) at the Barrington Municipal Arena starting at 8 p.m. Game two is also set to go in Barrington on Saturday night (Feb. 1) at 7:30.
The Spryfield Silver and Black Attack, who finished the season in first place (47 points), have a buy for the first playoff round. In the other series matchups, the Amherst Colts are meeting the South Shore Wild, while the Fundy Rhinos will face off against Clare.
The Ice Dogs wrapped up regular season play at home on Jan. 26, with a 5-4 win over the second place Colts (41 pts.) Brent Symonds posted a pair of markers for the Sea Star Squad, with singles from Doran Arey, Keigan Atwood and Aaron Atwood. Nathan Townsend and Morgan d’Entremont each added three assists, with two from Michael Link.
In weekend play on the road, Spryfield edged Barrington 2-1, while the Fundy Rhinos posted a 6-1 win over the Dogs to finish the season in third place (38), four points ahead of Barrington (34).
Morgan d’Entremont, assisted by Cody Nickerson and Aaron Atwood were the Barrington marksmen in the Spryfield contest. Nathan Townsend, assisted by Jevon Link and Brent Symonds posted the lone goal for the Dogs against Fundy.
Rounding out the league standings for the regular season are the Avon River Rats in fifth place (25); South Shore Wild, sixth (14), and the Clare Lions, seventh (2).
