Yarmouth Mariners doubled 4-2 by Pictou Crushers

The Yarmouth Mariners rallied late in the third period to come within one goal of Pictou but in the end couldn't overtake the Crushers who came away with a 4-2 win at the Mariners Centre on Friday, Jan. 24.

Down 3-0 in the third, the Mariners scored two quick goals one minute and eight seconds apart, the first a powerplay goal by Colin Campbell (Connor Donaghey, Justin Rasmussen) at 12:42, the second a goal at 13:50 by Braden Mericer (Zack Henry).

The Mariners couldn't further capitalize on their rally, although they came very close to tieing the game with two minutes remaining when the puck trickled past Crushers goalie Brandon Thibeau but failed to cross the line into the net.

The Mariners also missed out on a 51-second 5 on 3 powerplay opportunity in the second period.

In net for the Mariners Anderson Snair turned away 26 of 30 shots. Crushers goalie Brandon Thibeau stopped 32 of 34 shots.

• The appeal the Mariners filed against the MHL League ruling on the Jan. 18 shootout between the Mariners and Summerside was unsuccessful. The 5-4 win for Summerside stands.
