Falmouth's Brett Wallace, who plays on the Avon View Avalanche, was named the 2014 Valley High School Hockey League's Eastern Division All-Star Game MVP.

On Sunday afternoon, Jan. 19, in Middleton, Wallace led his team to a 4-2 victory over the Western Division by garnering three goals and an assist.

Wallace was one of four Avalanche players selected to play in the game. The other players were Trevor House, Matt Brison and goaltender Alex Williams.

Wallace opened the scoring for the Eastern Division by controlling play in the Western end midway through the opening period, then making a pass and putting himself wide open in the left face off circle before drilling the puck home on a nice pass.

The first period ended tied at 1-1.

Alex Williams was one of two goalies named by the league to play in this all-star game, and his skills were put to the test early in the second period. Williams was extra strong in nets as the West simply could not buy a goal.

The second period remained tied at 1-1.

With 12:37 to play in the game, Wallace scored the nicest goal of the game, taking a pass just in over the blue line, going in with a backhanded wrist shot and placed the puck into the top right hand corner of the net.

Wallace then put his team up 3-1 with a deadly wrist shot with 9:17 showing on the clock. The West scored with less than three minutes to play. The East later added an empty net goal.

Eastern All-Star Girls fall 5-4 to West

The Eastern All-Star Girls team staged a heroic comeback in the third period and almost tied it up with seconds showing on the clock only to be denied by a great stick save by Parkview goaltender Jerylin Nowe.

The West took a 1-0 lead after the opening frame and scored four times in the second to one goal by the East’s for a 5-1 lead after two periods. The East saved their best for last with three unanswered goals in the third period.

The Avalanche’s Alisha Burns, Sam Lake, Olivia Lynch and netminder Jessie Evans were the local hockey players involved in the All-Stars game. They played with the Eastern Division.

Lake, with an assist on the second East goal, with 8:22 to play, recorded the only point accumulated by the Avalanche players.
