Considering he only played his first game back on the Mariners roster on Jan. 9, forward Connor Donaghey didn't waste any time racking up goals and points and for that he was named the 2nd star of the week for the MHL for the week of Jan. 6-12.
The 19 year old from St. John’s, Newfoundland, suited up for his first three MHL games of the season Jan. 9-11 and found his scoring touch immediately, posting three goals and three assists.
On Jan. 9 in New Glasgow, Donaghey chipped in with a pair of assists in the Mariners’ 6-2 victory over the Pictou County Weeks Crushers. On Jan. 10 at home, Donaghey scored once and added an assist as his team lost 5-4 to the Dieppe Commandos, after Dieppe scored the winning goal with 33 seconds remaining.
On Jan. 11 at home against Mirimachi, Donaghey opened the scoring 40 seconds into the first period and then scored the game winner with just 7.6 seconds remaining in the third period in Yarmouth’s 4-3 victory over the Timberwolves. For his efforts, he was named that game’s first star.
Donaghey returned to the Mariners’ lineup after spending parts of the last two seasons with the QMJHL’s Saint John Sea Dogs, where he posted eight points in 37 regular season games.
Donaghey was sandwiched between two Amherst Ramblers as stars of the week, with Billy Clarke named 1st star and Brock Morrison named third star.
