Sam Lake started 2014 off in a strong fashion as she rifled home four goals during the Avon View girls’ hockey team’s first game of the new year.

Lake registered one quarter of her team's offensive production as the Avalanche blanked Northeast Kings 12-0.

The win marked the Avalanche's sixth victory of the regular season versus three losses.

Lake learned later in the week that she was one of five players from the Avalanche named to play in the Valley High School Hockey League’s All-Star game. Other local players named to the team were Alisha Burns, Olivia Lynch, Zoe Miller and Avalanche goaltender Jessie Evans.

Evans has a 2.67 goals against average, plus one shutout this season.

The Avalanche were scheduled to play Horton on Monday night. Jan. 13, and are preparing for a big game with the second place Middleton Monarchs Jan. 20 at 6 p.m.

Prior to the start of the new year, the Avalanche competed in the Peter Connell Memorial Hockey Tournament in Berwick and finished in second place.
