Mariners pick up 3 of 4 points during road trip

The Yarmouth Mariners picked up three of four possible points on the road Jan. 3 and 4 with a win in Campbellton and an overtime loss in Miramichi.

The Yarmouth Jr A Mariners (20-9-1-0) defeated the Campbellton Tigers (9-22-1-1) 3-1 Friday night, Jan. 3  in Campbellton.

Kyle Campbell led the Mariners with 2 goals.

K. Campbell (unassisted shorthanded) opened the scoring at 2:38 to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead after the first period. Danny Wicks (powerplay, game winner, Billy Hartley, Brandon Syms) scored at 11:03 to extend the lead to 2-0 after the second period. Sam Castonguay scored at 18:30 to get the Tigers on the scoreboard at 2-1. K. Campbell (empty net, second goal of game, Colin Campbell) rounded out the scoring at 19:37.

Yarmouth went 1 for 3 on the powerplay while Campbellton went 0 for 4.

Chase Gaudet stopped 28 of 29 shots for the win while Miguel Sullivan stopped 36 of 38 shots in the loss.

The Miramichi Timberwolves (20-6-0-3) edged the Yarmouth Jr A Mariners (20-9-2-0) 2-1 in overtime Saturday night, Jan. 4, in Miramichi.

Mitch McMullin opened the scoring at 7:35 to give the Timberwolves a 1-0 lead after the first period. Colin Campbell (Zack Henry, Kyle Campbell) scored 55 seconds into the middle frame to tie the game at 1-1 after the second period. As there was no third period scoring, the game was forced to go to extra time. In overtime, Rankyn Campbell (game winner) scored at 2:50 for the win.

Miramichi went 0 for 1 on the powerplay while Yarmouth went 0 for 2.

Clint Windsor stopped 28 of 29 shots for the win while Chase Gaudet stopped 34 of 36 shots in the loss.
