The Axemen football season started on a high note with a 34-5 win in exhibition play Aug. 30 against the visiting  Saint Mary's Huskies.

Acadia’s points came from Thomas Troop, Brian Jones, Ryan Begin, Cameron Davidson and Andrew Adams. The Axemen defence was led by Sehkahnee Reynolds.

"Some turnovers led to points for us and I think the game was a bit out of touch with what we will expect from Saint Mary's in two weeks time when we meet them at home again,” coach Jeff Cummins said.

However, he said he was very happy with his young team’s play.

"They have worked real hard over the last 10 days and they had a chance to get out and play and do what they can to be successful,” Cummins said.  “It was fun to watch them play with a very basic vanilla offence".

The Axemen visit Mount Allison next Saturday for a 2 p.m. game against the 2013 AUS champion Mounties.
