The Sydney Sooners snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 7-3 win over the Kentville senior Wildcats Friday evening in Sydney.
The loss snapped the Wildcats' mini-winning streak at one, and dropped Kentville to 2-15 on the season.
Sydney led 3-1 after three innings, but the Wildcats clawed back with single runs in the fifth and seventh to tie the score at three.
The Sooners, though, broke the tie with a run in the bottom of the seventh, then added three in the eighth to secure the victory. Sydney ended up with seven runs on nine hits; the Wildcats three runs on six hits.
Justin Brewer picked up the win with relief help from Paul Doucette who entered the contest in the eighth inning, finished the game and earned a save. Mike Lockhart went the distance on the mound for Kentville, and took the loss.
Jordan Shepherd led the offense for the Sooners with a double and a two-run homer. Mike Lockhart helped his own cause with a pair of singles for Kentville. Codey Shrider and John Ansara each had a double, and Ian Lockhart and Kyle Dougan both had singles.
The Wildcats and Sooners finish off their weekend series with a Saturday doubleheader.
