The Barrington Municipal High School Junior Boys 4 X 100m relay team, of Joe Atkinson, Brett Smith, Jacob Symonds and Tommy Willis, captured provincial gold last week with a school record of 50.00s. It was the first relay gold medal for the school since the mid-1990's.
Jacob Symonds also put in a fine performance with a 4th place finish in the 200m, running it in 25.76s. The boys were also rewarded at the BMHS Sports Banquet by being named Jr. Team of the Year.
Courtney Smith finished 5th at Provincials with a throw of 28.58m, which also set a school record. Smith set another school record in the discus, with a toss of 22.53m, good enough for another 5th place finish.
Patricia Messenger ran the Senior Girls 3000m in 14:20, good enough for a 13th place finish.
Nakitia Penney had a stellar performance at Provincials, winning three medals in the Junior Special Athletes division.
Nakitia had a bronze medal in the 100m with a run of 18.65s, and a bronze in the long jump with a jump of 2.61m, to go along with her silver medal in the shot put, where she threw 5.31m.
