The Digby area Admirals lacrosse club has reached the mid-point in the season after hosting a two-day jamboree at the Digby area rink.

Teams from Kentville, Valley and Digby, with athletes ranging from Mini-Tyke to Midget, played a total of 11 games at the Digby rink on Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31.

Valley Thunder came in for both a Peewee and Bantam game Friday night.

Digby Admiral Peewees won 6-1 and the Digby Bantams 5 - 4.  Mike Murphy notched a hat trick and Logan Bell picked up the other two goals for the Bantams.

Bruce McCullogh, head coach with the Admirals, said Saturday was a bit different.

“All our teams were good hosts,” he said. “We lost all our games.  This weekend was a very busy one for many families, so we were a bit short on players at all levels.”

Some of the Digby Bantams played up with the Midgets to help out, and some of the peewees played up with the bantams.

“That made for a lot of lacrosse for a number of our players,” said McCullogh. “This is a very tough game to play when the bench is short.”

The Admirals have four weekend jamborees remaining.

This coming weekend they play in Kentville, then Berwick and then back to Digby on Sunday, June 22.

The season wraps up with a big weekend in Berwick on the weekend of June 28 and 29.

“Our players continue to improve week by week and we're competitive in all games when our rosters are full,” said McCullogh.
