Updated with score

The Avon View Avalanche girls' rugby team emerged victorious this week against their Hants County rivals and finished their season in first place with an 8-0 record.

The sideline was packed with students and adults to see the action between Avon View and King's-Edgehill School Tuesday.

"It was two undefeated teams so there was a little bit of nerves for both teams. You could tell at the start they were both kind of tentative," said Jim Bryan, the head coach of the Avalanche.

Avon View broke free of the back and forth and scored three tries in quick succession. The game was then evenly matched until the last half, when the momentum switched to slightly favour KES.

"It was hard-hitting, on both sides, and clean," said Bryan.

The final score was 17-5. Brittany MacKinnon, Sophie Parker and Jaclyn Silver scored tries for AVHS and Katie Giles made one conversion. Abena Danquah registered the lone try for KES.

Both AVHS and KES are now competing in Tier 1 playdowns in the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation's Rugby League. The top four teams play one another before entering semi-finals and finals.

"If we end up first after the next round (of games), we would host the regional final, which is our goal," said Bryan.

Both AVHS and KES played Valley teams on May 8. AVHS won 15-10 and KES won their bout against Horton 32-0.

On May 13, KES hosts Central Kings and AVHS hosts Horton High. On May 20, at 5 p.m., it's a rematch between the Hants County rivals at the KES pitch.

Semi-finals will take place on May 27 and finals will be held May 29. Provincials are slated for May 30-31.

The next two home game for KES is May 13 and May 20. Avon View's next home match is May 20 when Horton High comes to town.
