42-team tournament begins today at BMO Centre in Bedford
The Valley midget AAA Wildcats and Kings Mutual bantam AAA Wildcats are both taking part in the Chronicle-Herald East Coast Ice Jam today, Jan. 8, through Sunday, Jan. 12 at the four-pad BMO Centre in Bedford.
A total of 20 major midget teams and 22 major bantam teams from Atlantic Canada and as far away as Quebec will contest the tournament’s two divisions.
Each of the Valley teams will play three round robin games. The bantam Wildcats are scheduled to play first Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 4:45 p.m. against Newbridge Academy Senators from Dartmouth.
Kings Mutual will also meet Truro Bearcats Thursday, Jan. 9 at 6:45 p.m., and Sherwood Falcons from P.E.I. Friday, Jan. 10 at 9:15 a.m.
The midget Wildcats open Thursday, Jan. 9 at 11 a.m. against Moncton, then play Central Icepak from Newfoundland and Labrador Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Valley’s final round robin game is Friday, Jan. 10 at 1:30 p.m. against Saint John Vitos.
The top teams in the round robin move on to the playoff round in their respective divisions, based on their round robin records.
