It has been a good year so far for the Lockeport Greenwave senior boys.
Just ahead of another win over the Liverpool Warriors on Thursday, Dec. 5, coach Frances Scott was informed that her team will host the provincial Division 4 championships on Feb. 27 to March 1.
“We were lucky enough to get it this year,” noted Scott, whose team last hosted the boy’s provincial championships in 2009.
The Lockeport boys have only been defeated once in Sou’west Nova Senior Basketball League play as yet, losing by a three-point margin to Barrington in a game where their top scorer was absent.
The school has a good team this year and while Scott expects that her boys will be near the top rankings, she notes that Division 4 rivals, The North Queens Spartans, always give them tough competition every year.
“They seem to play harder against us for some reason,” joked Scott.
He team has picked tough opponents for its exhibition games. Includig exhibition games the team has an overall record of 6 wins and eight losses. Scott is hopeful that even if they lose some of those games against larger schools, that the experience will help her boys as they prepare for the provincials.
