Police have identified Daniel Michael Pellerin of Dartmouth as the victim in a homicide that took place on Friday night.

Pellerin, 28, was last seen in north end Dartmouth at approximately 7 p.m. Aug. 29. He was riding a mountain bike and wearing a black helmet.

Halifax Regional Police were called to a disturbance in the parking lot of Farrel Hall at 276 Windmill Rd. around 10:30 p.m. after witnesses say three men were fighting.

When officers arrived, Pellerin was found unconscious and suffering from several stab wounds.

He was rushed to hospital by paramedics, but died.

“We can’t say at this point whether Daniel knew these people or not,” said Cst. Pierre Bourdages of Halifax Regional Police.

“We have limited details at this time. There are lots of questions, but not many answers.”

Police say the suspects are described as white men who were both wearing dark clothing. They were last seen running northbound on Windmill Road.

Less than 12 hours after the killing, the parking lot at Farrel Hall was eerily quiet. There was no crime scene tape and no investigators searching for clues. The parking lot was clean of any blood or signs of struggle. It was as if nothing had happened.

The only signs of life were a few vendors selling crafts along the side of Windmill Road.

“It’s way too close to home,” said Phyllis McKay as she set up her merchandise. McKay lives only a block away from where the killing happened. “Way, way too close to home.”

“I’ll be glad when I get out of this area,” she continued. “It’s not the best.”

McKay and the others said they hadn’t seen or heard anything on Friday night and added that Farrel Hall isn’t normally in use on Friday nights, a fact that could reduce the number of potential witnesses.

The major crime unit of Halifax police is investigating the homicide and are asking anyone with information to contact them at 902-490-2020 or through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

This is Halifax’s fifth homicide of 2014.
