Community members are staging a sit-in at MP Gerald Keddy's office in Bridgewater in protest of the Harper government's support of Israeli bombing in the Gaza Strip, which has killed 1,940 people since July 8.
MP Gerald Keddy's office is being occupied, in protest of the federal government's support of Israel
“As Israeli shells rail down indiscriminately on Gaza, the Harper government has been the biggest cheerleader of this aggression,” says Katie Boudreau of Dayspring, Lunenburg County. “It is shameful that Harper is providing cover as children get bombed on the beach and UN schools are attacked.”
The community members are calling for the Harper government to denounce the violence against Palestinians, call for a just peace by ending the occupation, and halting any arms shipments to Israel. They want a meeting with MP Gerald Keddy to voice their opposition to the war.
“The Harper government is giving a green light to any amount of Israeli violence and its very dangerous,” says Boudeau. “If our government won't support a just peace, then it's time for Harper to go.”
