Two men are facing charges following a break and enter that occurred early Friday morning in Dartmouth.

Halifax Regional Police officers responded to a call at 1:13 a.m. June 20 from the 300 block of Portland Street for a report of a break and enter in progress.

A 44-year-old man had just returned home when police say a man wearing a mask broke through the front door. Police say a struggle broke out between the victim and the suspect before the suspect left with nothing.

Another suspect was seen outside the home, but didn’t go inside. Nearby patrol officers were able to quickly locate the suspects on Portland Street.

Police say one of the suspects punched two officers as he was being arrested, while the other suspect was apprehended without incident. The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated on site.

Colin Dennis Sanderson, 24, of Dartmouth, faces charges of robbery, two charges of assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, break and enter and possession of break-in tools.

Troy James Colley, 20, also of Dartmouth, is facing a charge of robbery.

Both suspects were held in custody and were scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Friday.
