Police have laid trafficking charges against a 40-year-old woman after they say she used an underage girl for prostitution.

On Wednesday, officers with the Halifax Regional Police RCMP integrated vice unit finished an investigation into a woman suspected of procuring a young girl for prostitution.

Police say they searched a residence in the 2400 block of Brunswick Street in Halifax Wednesday night, arrested a woman without incident and seized computer equipment during the search.

Corena Charmaine Hiles, 40, faces one charge of trafficking a person under the age of 18, and one charge of material benefit.

Hiles is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court Thursday.

The charges against Hiles come more than three months after Florence Muriel Young, 36, was charged with 13 offences including counseling someone under 18 into prostitution, and hiding someone under 18 in a “bawdy house.”

In March, Halifax police located two more victims in their mid-teens, and laid 18 more charges against Young.
