A former Kings County councillor, Kings South MLA and provincial cabinet minister has now been acclaimed as the Kings-Hants Conservative candidate for the next federal election.
David Morse was officially acclaimed through the party nomination process as the Conservative Party of Canada candidate Jan. 6. Kings-Hants Conservatives have already held their inaugural campaign meeting.
Morse says he is focused on serving the citizens of Kings-Hants as their member of parliament. Liberal Scott Brison, first elected MP in 1997 under the Progressive Conservative banner, currently holds the seat. Aside from a brief period in 2000 when Brison stepped aside so federal PC leader and former Prime Minister Joe Clark could run in a by-election in Kings-Hants, Brison has held the seat since.
“My priority, right now, is to listen,” Morse says.
“I am hearing concerns about protecting our agricultural heritage, which is so critical across Kings-Hants. I am hearing municipal and community leaders talk about improved cooperation between all levels of governments to ensure that this region gets the greatest benefit available from infrastructure programs.”
Morse says he is also hearing seniors talk about their priorities for personal financial security, initiatives that support independence and a healthcare system that will provide for them. He also hears comments from parents focused on the importance of a federal government that values family.

“The Conservative Party is thrilled to have David Morse confirmed as our candidate for Kings-Hants,” says Kings-Hants Conservative Association president Herman McLellan. “The number of both experienced people and new volunteers who are eager to support David is evident of his reputation as a man of integrity and strong work ethic.”
McLellan said through a news release Morse earned a reputation as a good constituency MLA and a respected minister in the recent provincial Progressive Conservative government. Originally appointed to cabinet by Premier John Hamm in 2001, Morse served until the change in government in 2009, when he lost the Kings South seat to NDP candidate Ramona Jennex.
As one of the longest serving MLAs for Kings South, Morse was also a long-serving provincial minister of environment and labour, minister of community services and minister of natural resources.
Morse is a former, self-employed life and disability insurance broker; married to Lynn Morse and has five adult sons, four daughters-in-law and five grandchildren.
