Most schools in the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board are welcoming students back to class on Sept. 4.
For the safety of students, the school board is asking drivers to take extra care at this time of year. Watch for students on their way to school, at bus stops and especially at crosswalks and intersections.
When drivers see a school bus with its red lights flashing, always stop and never pass the bus. Students may be getting on or off the bus and may be crossing the road.
Across Nova Scotia, school zones are now clearly marked with reduced speed limits. In areas where the approaching speed limit is 50 km/hour, the school zone speed limit is 30 km/hour. By reducing speed in a school zone, drivers have more time to react to the unexpected.
