Would-be theives tried to drag this paddleboat into the water using a four-wheeler but ended up destroying it.

Two men tried to steal a paddleboat from a beach near Digby but ended up destroying it instead.

The owner of the plastic paddleboat heard a four-wheeler or four-wheelers about 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6 on the shore near his house on Joggin Lane.

Two men were sitting on a red four-wheeler and attempting to tow the paddleboat from the beach out onto the mudflats.

Digby RCMP Constable Darrell McNeil said they were presumably trying to steal the paddle boat by letting the incoming tide float it.

Instead the pair only managed to rip several large holes in the paddleboat.

They abandoned the boat and fled towards Digby on the old railway bed.

Constable McNeil says the RCMP saw one of the men on the red ATV but he didn’t stop.
