One man was sent to the hospital after his vehicle was struck with logs that fell off of a tractor-trailer Friday afternoon.

A trail of several logs could be spotted near the ditch the man's car came to a stop in. The badly damaged sedan landed upside down in a ditch along Highway 14 near Sweets Corner on Friday, March 14.

RCMP Cst. Andy Harris said the middle-aged man was the lone occupant of the car. It is believed the man injured his back in the accident.

The roads were clear at the time of the accident, which occurred around 3 p.m.

The driver of the log truck was not injured. An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.

Windsor Fire Chief Scott Burgess estimated it took about 10 minutes for firefighters to free the man, who was responsive following the crash, from the car using Jaws of Life extrication tools.

Won't be the last time this sort of accident will happen the way these logging trucks drive. I drive schoolbus and hold my breath everytime I meet one of them on a turn in the road...........

Dept. of Transportation needs to start checking these big truck and trailers instead of stalking and preying on the smaller delivery trucks. Seems like it is too much work for D.O.T. to stop and inspect the big trucks. Truckers know they can get away with a lot of carelessness not to mention safety infractions because of this.

This is just a prelude to what is going to happen if something isn't done about the heavy loads carried by these trucks , and the speed in which they travel on our small roads... what a horrible tragedy...

The accident happened near the exit from the 101, just past the gympsum mines.
