Family physicians Dr. Amna Kremed and Dr. Nazila Khanahmadi have begun working in Yarmouth.

Dr. Kremed completed her MD degree from Dalhousie University, Halifax, in June 2011 and family medicine residency from the University of Alberta, Edmonton. In 1987, she also completed Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at Al-Fateh University, Tripoli, Libya.

Dr. Khanahmadi received her Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Azad University of Tehran, Iran in 2000. She successfully completed the CAPP (Clinical Assessment for Practice Program) in June 2013. The CAPP is a program for international medical graduates which is jointly offered by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia and Dalhousie University. Dr. Khanahmadi now holds a defined license with the College of Physicians & Surgeons. Dr. Winston Wertlen will be her physician mentor/supervisor and Dr. Alenia Kysela, district chief of staff/VP medicine will be her sponsor.

The two family physicians will gradually accept a limited number of new patients over a period of time. Only 200 new patients (100 for each physician) are able to be accepted during three separate times in March, April and May. First priority will be given to the residents of Yarmouth County.

South West Health says accepting only a limited number of patients at a time “will hopefully avoid the creation of a large list of patients that takes many months to process. This will also mean less time for new patients waiting for an appointment.”

Residents of Yarmouth County who currently do not have a primary care provider, and who are interested in applying to become a patient of Dr. Kremed or Dr. Khanahmadi, please NOTE:

1st Intake of 200 patients - Tuesday, March 18 from 9:30 to 12 noon

(if 100 patients for each physician are not registered at the above time, the phone line will open again the next day, Wednesday, March 19 from 9:30 to 12 noon)

2nd Intake of 200 patients - Tuesday, April 29 from 9:30 am to 12 noon

(if 100 patients for each physician are not registered at the above time, the phone line will open again the next day, Wednesday, April 30 from 9:30 to 12 noon)

3rd Intake of 200 Patients - Tuesday, May 27 from 9:30 am to 12 noon

(if 100 patients for each physician are not registered at the above time, the phone line will open again the next day, Wednesday, May 28 from 9:30 to 12 noon)
