Weymouth residents are reaching out to victims of Superstorm Sandy.

People on Staten Island face devastation and a hard winter this year. The Weymouth Church of Christ is organizing a benefit for them with a silent and hourly live auction, live music, bake sale, food, and drink this Saturday, Dec. 1.

People on Staten Island have lost their homes and are still without heat and electricity, said Daren Mitchell, pastor of Weymouth Church of Christ.

“People’s lives have changed forever,” says Mitchell.

Mitchell’s close friend, Pastor Israel de la Cruz of the Staten Island Church told him about the situation during a phone call two weeks ago.

“I mentioned this to my congregation and then this event was born,” said Mitchell.

They are holding the  Community Auction for Staten Island Hurricane Sandy Relief at the Weymouth Legion from 1-4 p.m. Donations for the event and for the Staten Island families are welcome.
