People from near and far will be attending the Shag Harbour Incident Festival this weekend for the celebration and in fascination of the 1967 UFO visit to the seaside community.

“We have people who are coming from Edmonton, Ontario and Pennsylvania,” said festival organizer Cindy Nickerson., adding she has also had calls from throughout the province as well as New Brunswick so is hoping for a good turnout.

The annual festival gets underway Friday (Aug. 5) at the Shag Harbour Incident Centre, with a multitude of activities throughout the day including a washer tournament, children’s activities and the premiere of the Shag Harbour Idol talent contest.

Also on tap are talks with local eyewitnesses to the 1967 UFO incident, a lecture by world renowned UFO researcher and author Stanton T. Freidman as well as boat tours (weather permitting) to the UFO crash site.

On Saturday Friedman will be joined by fellow UFO authoritarian Donald Ledger for the presentation, All About UFOs.  The Malcolm Ross Memorial Boat Races will wrap up the festival in the afternoon.

All lectures as well as the Shag Harbour Idol contest will be held at the Shag Harbour fire hall, with the post office and the incident centre serving as other venues.

To register or for more information on Shag Harbour Idol, contact music director Dale Nickerson at 723-2385.    Cash prizes will be awarded.
