Members of the Valley band Witchitaw have a great opportunity to showcase their musical talents to a wider audience.
Band member Jason Spinney of Aylesford said they have been selected to showcase at the 2014 East Coast Music Awards in Charlottetown on April 4 and 5.
“We feel this is a great opportunity for the band, as it will give us greater exposure to a wide range of festival buyers from not only across Canada but also the U.S., Europe and even as far away as Australia,” Spinney said.
The East Coast Music Association has chosen Witchitaw to perform on the opportunity stage April 4 at 6 p.m. at the Delta Prince Edward Convention Center, with a live interview on ECMA Radio following the set. The interview can be heard on www.ecma.com and www.eastlink.ca.
The band has also been selected to display its product in the Export Buyers Center. Spinney said showcasing artists are deemed “export ready” for festival buyers from around the world. There are more than 50 festival buyers attending who are looking to add East Coast acts to their festivals. As selected showcase artists, Witchitaw has been given the opportunity to meet with and perform for them.
Witchitaw was chosen to perform on the Cavendish Beach Music Festival Country-Americana Stage on April 5 at 8:40 p.m. at the Factory Cook House and Dancehall as well.
“It will be a lot of fun meeting other east coast acts that we haven’t had the opportunity to hear live before as well as an opportunity to catch up with acts we have done shows with over the past few years,” Spinney said.
He said this is a wonderful opportunity for them to gain greater exposure. Spinney said they would be doing Facebook updates over the ECMA weekend in the form of short videos called “Witchitaw TV” to keep fans up-to-date on what’s happening.
The band has been together for about five years and features members from across the Valley. They include Spinney on lead vocals and rhythm guitar; his brother, Jamie Spinney, on drums; Terry Salsman on bass; Dohn Kendall on keyboards, guitar and background vocals; and Chris Connell on lead guitar.
