The Windsor and District Lions Club is looking to the community for support.

The non-profit organization dedicated to community service is hosting its third annual dinner and auction at King’s-Edgehill School from 6-10 p.m. on May 10.

Dale Evans, a spokesperson for the club, says the goal is to raise $20,000 at the event, which will feature guest speakers and showcase the auctioneering talents of Laurie Parker.

“What we do is we donate a lot of money to local families that are not as well off as others,” explained Evans.

The Lions also support fellow non-profit groups, charities and special causes.

As of May 3, there were about 60 seats available for the auction. Evans says the club is hoping the auction will draw a capacity crowd packed with individuals committed to helping the Lions expand their reach.

“Every year we struggle to do more things for the community.”

Evans, who is also involved with the organization overseeing the operations of the Valley Maple Leafs, says the hockey team became involved with the fundraiser this year to provide the Lions with a little extra manpower.

The local Lions club has 33 active members, but they are looking for more people to get involved.

“The more members we can get, the more we can do,” said Evans.

Tickets for the dinner and auction can be purchased at Scotiabank, Windsor Home Hardware, from any member of the Windsor and District Lions Club, or from any member of the Valley Maple Leafs hockey organization. Individual tickets cost $40, and a table of 10 sells for $350.
