The holiday spirit was alive and well last night in Weymouth as spectators lined both sides of Main Street to take in the village’s first Parade of Lights.

Stacey Doucette, one of the parade organizers said he, his wife Krissie, and friends Tammy and John Burns felt that an event this close to Christmas was a great way to keep Christmas in the heart of Weymouth and the surrounding communities.

“Many people from away come home for Christmas and this parade was a great way to bring family and friends together,” said Tammy Burns.

Doucette said there were 41 floats entered in the parade with Weymouth Church of Christ receiving the WOW trophy, Sissiboo Home Hardware wining the community spirit trophy, the ATV Club in Saulnierville taking the brightest trophy, and Marlene Belliveau’s Candy Land float receiving the most creative trophy.

Doucette said the response to the parade was very positive and all four organizers were more than satisfied with the success of the event.

Becky White of Ashmore said the parade was very impressive.

“Hats off to all involved in tonight’s Parade of Lights,” she said. “Thanks so much for bringing this to Weymouth.”

Other responses were also enthusiastic: “Amazing, and an awesome start to a great new tradition,” and “It was beautiful and the kids loved it.”

Doucette thanked the support from the local businesses and said he wanted to give a special thanks to Randy Sabine who made sure much of the parking areas downtown were cleared of snow.
