The next section of paving to be tendered for Highway 101, a stretch from Falmouth to the Kings County line, was announced today said Hants West MLA and Government Caucus Chair Chuck Porter. “The paving of this section of Highway 101, combined with the $8 million in twinning construction already underway between St. Croix and Garland's Crossing is another strong indicator of the MacDonald government's commitment to the continued and orderly twinning of Highway 101 through to Coldbrook," said Mr. Porter. "An agreement will soon be finalized by Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal staff which will see the calling of tenders for a roundabout highway project at Exit 5-A on Wentworth Road."

Today's announcement of the paving tender between Falmouth and the Kings County line is one of 18 being announced across the province by Premier MacDonald and Transportation Minister Brooke Taylor. "Today's Highway 101 project in Hants West is part of Premier MacDonald’s ‘Building for Growth’ plan," the Progressive Conservative MLA said. “Investments like these showcase the MacDonald government’s commitment to our communities and the people who will benefit from the employment opportunities.”

Today’s announcement of the next phase of the province’s highway investments builds on the $65 million worth of projects already announced, bringing the provincial total to almost $100 million.

On Wednesday, Premier MacDonald unveiled a $1.9 billion economic stimulus plan “Building for Growth” which will focus on energy conservation; roads, bridges and highways; schools and information technology; safe, healthy communities; and tourism, culture and heritage.

The Premier’s plan will create an estimated 20,000 jobs over the next three years.
