KENTVILLE, NS - It was a big day for the Valley United Under-10 Boys soccer team with two wins in Nova Scotia Soccer League play on the Kings County Academy field in Kentville.

The first game on July 21 was against DFC Messi team from Dartmouth. Valley United won by a score of 4 to 2. The second game, against the Storm team from Halifax, saw the Valley United boys win by a score of 7 to 2.

Head coach Angela Morrison said she was pleased with the team’s performance in terms of passing and moving the ball and with combination plays.

“It was exciting to see them taking it wide and then looking to cross and finish,” Morrison said. “Defensively, they played smart and kept the game in front of them. They were patient and looked for those opportunities to step in and win it.”

Morrison said the boys are at the ready-to-train stage. They’re beginning to develop training habits and are learning the proper way to approach competitive play. They’re developing consistency of play and are learning to sustain efforts day in and day out.

She said Valley United has two U-10 teams and a U-9 team. They are training together and Morrison has two co-head coaches helping her with the other teams. She said this has been good in terms of developing capacity in the age group. The boys enjoy competing internally against each other as well as against the same opposition.

“They really enjoy coming and just learning the game,” Morrison said.
