LIVERPOOL – The Liverpool Privateers defeated the Valley Maple Leafs 5-2 at Queens Place Emera Centre Jan. 13.
Liverpool’s Connor Barnhill scored two goals, and Kyle Hicks, Jaron Bollivar and Dylan Crews each scored one in the winning effort. Jordan Messenger got two assists. Travis Parks, Alex Nauss, Harnish Stone and Logan MacLellan each made one assist.
So far in the regular season, the Privateers have won 16 games – eight at home and eight on the road. The team has lost 11 games – five at home and six on the road.
The news wasn’t as good the previous night, when the Privateers lost a hard-fought 8-5 battle against the East Hants Penguins. Liverpool’s goals came from Brandon Pottie – who tallied two goals and an assist in the losing effort – while Parks, Barnhill and Nauss each had a single marker for the Privateers.
The Privateers are currently ranked fourth in the Fred Fox division of the Nova Scotia junior B league, three points ahead of the Sackville Blazers. The Liverpool squad will be looking to pick up some additional wins in the coming weeks to hang onto the fourth playoff spot.
The Privateers are scheduled to play against the bottom-ranked Brookfield Elks at 7:30 p.m. at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex Jan. 25. Another away game is set to take place against the East Hants Penguins – currently ranked second in the division - at 8 p.m. at the East Hants Sportsplex Jan. 31. Finally, the Privateers are set to face off at home at 7:30 p.m. against the Pictou County Scotians Feb. 3 in a cross-divisional matchup.
