ST. BERNARD, N.S. — The St. Mary's Bay Academy junior boys basketball team successfully defended their Annapolis Digby Clare Tier 2 District Championship title in a 54-47 win over Islands Consolidated School at SMBA on Feb. 12.
SMBA jumped out to take a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter but ICS fought back to edge the Stingrays 27-26 at the half. Both teams played a close third quarter and the Stingrays squeezed by the Clippers 40-39 going into the final eight minutes.
SMBA coach Brandon Doucette had words of praise for both teams.
“Congratulations to the Clippers on their amazing season and to Griffith Moore's team leadership. He played his heart out tonight,” Doucette said. “Our team has had a season of highs and lows but I am very proud of how much they have grown. It was a great game tonight and we are excited to be heading to Regionals.”
Griffith Moor had a game high 39 points for the Clippers while Jack Mullen led the Stingrays with 18 points, Alex Barr scored 12 and Camden Mullen netted 10 for the win.
The Stingrays will represent Annapolis Digby Clare in the 2019 Tier 2 Junior Boys Regional Championships to be held in Lunenburg February 25.
