Sherwood Park Blazers post win in soccer playoffs

WHITNEY PIER, N.S. — The Sherwood Park Blazers blanked the Whitney Pier Memorial Mustangs 3-0 in the opening game of their girls ‘B’ middle school soccer playoff series on Tuesday at Neville Park.

Carly Baldwin, Beth MacInnis and Serenity Verret scored in the victory, while Danielle Nicholson posted the shutout. The Blazers take a three-point lead in the race for four points into Wednesday’s game at 3:15 p.m. at Open Hearth Park grass field in Sydney.

In another girls ‘B’ playoff game at Veterans Memorial Field in New Waterford, Malcolm Munroe shutout Breton Education Centre 3-0.

Maggie Hillier, Ava Mac Donald and Rachel Moore scored, with Lily Rhymes kept a clean sheet. Malcolm Munroe took the series with the maximum available points after two matches.

In boys playoff action at T.L. Sullivan school, Malcolm Munroe won that series following a convincing 12-1 win.

Scoring for Malcolm Munroe was Ryan Wadden with four goals, Axel Alvarado with three, Bradley MacNeil-Burke and Gahan Rector with two each and Gavin Rector with a single. Sam Gracie scored the lone T.L. Sullivan tally.
Malcolm will now play CSEA on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Open Hearth Park turf.

Another boys game contested at Veterans Memorial Field saw SPEC defeat BEC 2-1 to win the series. Noah Hutchison-Mills and Cole Hutchison Mills struck for the Blazers. The BEC goal scorer was not available.

SPEC will now take on Whitney Pier Memorial in a race for four points with the opening game starting Wednesday at Neville Park at 3:30 p.m.
In girls ‘A’ action played at Open Hearth Park turf, Malcolm Munroe moved onto the gold medal match next Tuesday with a 2-1 win over BEC.
Scoring for Malcolm was Keira Fuller with both goals. For BEC, Taylor Hurley bent the twine. The Bears will play for bronze next Tuesday.
