The Shelburne County Flames captured the peewee A banner at the Fall Faceoff tournament hosted by Clare/Digby with a perfect 3-0 record.
In their opening game the Shelburne squad dumped the host Ravens by a score of 5-0.  Game MVP Chase Perry led the attack with four goals, with Dylan Hatfield adding a single.  Jessica MacKinnon had three assists, while Elliot Taylor, Jada Mackinnon and Jack Atkinson each contributed an assist. Jacob Atwood earned the shutout between the pipes.
Game 2 saw the Flames narrowly edge the South Shore Ice Sharks 4-3 on a late powerplay goal by Chase Perry with only 26 seconds remaining. Jessica Mackinnon fired a hat-trick, with game MVP Luke Spencer making several key saves to pick up the win in goal. The victory earned the Flames a bye to the Oct. 29 final in Digby.
The championship contest was a rematch between the Flames and the host Clare/Digby squad.  Both teams played a very entertaining hockey game, as the Shelburne team came out on top of a 1-0 decision.  Game MVP Dakota Ryer scored the lone goal early in the second period on a passing play from Lucas R. Nickerson and Lucas Nickerson.  Jacob Atwood once again claimed the shutout for the winners.
"The team battled hard and paid attention to details very well for early in the season," said assistant coach Dwayne Nickerson.  "They were rewarded for their hard work and defensive play winning a hard fought game against a solid Ravens team. They should be proud."
The Flames also captured the team skills competition by taking first place points in all four categories:  Jessica Mackinnon for fastest skater, Chase Perry for shooting, Jada MacKinnon for puckhandling and Jacob Atwood for top goalie.
This was the first banner of the season for the Flames as they wrapped up exhibition play with a 5-2 record.  The team will open their WNMHL regular season Friday, Nov. 3, at the Shelburne arena. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m. when they host the Clare/Digby Ravens.
