The École secondaire de Par-en-Bas senior boys baseball team captured the 2018 western regional division 2 title over the weekend.
After winning a game and losing another in round-robin play, the Par-en-Bas team defeated Barrington Municipal High School – the team they lost to in round-robin action – in the championship game.
Miguel Surette was the winning pitcher in a 5-1 title-clinching victory.
He pitched six-and-two-thirds innings and had eight strikeouts.
At the plate, he had two singles, while Gavin O’Connell had a triple and single and Vincent Surette had a pair of singles for the winners.
Par-en-Bas advances to the provincials to be played this weekend in Cape Breton.
The three-team regional tournament, which also included Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School, was played at Veterans Field in Yarmouth.
The tournament began with Barrington defeating Yarmouth 5-3 in the first of Friday’s round-robin games.
Par-en-Bas then took the field against Yarmouth, blanking the Vikings 10-0.
Barrington downed Par-en-Bas 13-3 to conclude round-robin play.
The title contest was held Saturday, Par-en-Bas winning its rematch with Barrington.
