WOLFVILLE, NS - Seventeen-year-old Wolfville native and two-time Canadian freestyle champion Makayla Levy outscored her opponent five-to-one to capture gold in an U.S. competition recently.

Levy won the Women’s 130-pound High School division on June 10 in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Prior to entering this tournament, Levy represented Canada, and competed in her first international tournament, at the United World Wrestling Pan-American Games in Guatemala on May 25-27, where she placed eighth.

Levy said that she felt good going into the competition, as she had been preparing hard for the tournament in Guatemala and continued with the same energy for the week leading up to the competition in Massachusetts.

“I felt ready by the time that the tournament came around and was ready to bounce back because of my fall back in Guatemala,” said Levy. “The loss just pushed me to work harder than before and to change things.”
