Youth athletes gave it their all as they raced to the finish line during Windsor’s annual Iron Kids Triathlon.

The purpose of the race is to introduce youth and spectators to the sport in a safe and non-competitive manner.

Children were separated into five age groups, with each race being specific to their age level.

Children born between 2014 and 2016 started out by wading in the pool, biking 250 metres and running 250 metres.

Children born in 2012 or 2013 were to swim 25 metres, bike one kilometre, and run 500 metres to the finish line.

Youth born in 2010 or 2011 started the course by swimming 50 metres, transitioned to biking for two kilometres, and then finished it by running one kilometre.

Youth born in 2008 or 2009 swam 75 metres, biked 2.5 kilometres, and then ran 1.5 kilometres.

The most advanced race group, those born between 2003 and 2007, swam 125 metres, biked five kilometres, and ran two kilometres.

More than 120 youth registered for the Aug. 11 event.
