SYDNEY, N.S. — The Cape Breton Eagles are ready to spread their wings on a new season following a 3-2 QMJHL exhibition game victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs in Fredericton on Saturday.

Rookie defenceman Alex Falardeau scored the winning goal for Cape Breton in the third period to complete the comeback after the Eagles fell behind in the second period on two Sea Dog goals in less than a minute.

Jarrett Baker and Ryan Francis scored the other Cape Breton goals, while Brady Burns and Dawson Stairs tallied for Saint John.

William Grimard turned aside 33 shots in the Eagles net, while the Sea Dogs’ Zachary Bouthillier shouldered the loss.

Cape Breton, which has four players still away at NHL training camps, opens the 2019-20 regular season on the road Friday when they take on the Titan in Bathurst. The two sides play again Saturday.

The Eagles home opener is set for the following Saturday, Sept. 28, at Centre 200 at 7 p.m.
