WINDSOR, N.S. — In order for the Windsor Royals to win the Nova Scotia Regional Junior Hockey League Championship and then play in the Maritime North Championship in Woodstock, N.B. in March, they will require 11 wins over three series.
After the opening two games of their Best of Five series with the Cumberland Colts, the Royals have reduced that magic number to nine. They tripled the Colts in Game 1 in Springhill 6-2 on Feb. 2 and then came back to Windsor and hammered the Colts 11-5 on Feb 3.
Game 1 was quite even throughout two periods as the Royals held period leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before they exploded for four goals in the third period.
Parker Connors and Carter Davidson both scored a pair of goals in Cumberland County with Davidson also collecting an assist. Single goals were recorded by Alex Kelly and Brayden Schofield. Windsor held a 43-29 shots advantage.
In Windsor, the Royals throttled their engines early and ran over the Colts, taking period leads of 3-1 and 7-4 before scoring four more times in the third period.
Chad Woodill and Kyle Armsworthy both collected a pair of goals for the Royals, with single goals coming from Keagan Levangie, Brandon Sullivan, Justin MacLellan, Tyler LaPierre, Jacob Caldwell, Cole Godfrey and Cam Dauphinee.
The Royals are slated to travel to Springhill Feb. 9 for Game 3 of this Best of Five series. A win would then put them up against the Spryfield Attack for the second round of playoffs, which would start on the Feb. 15-16 weekend. If the series with the Colts requires a fourth game, it’ll be Feb. 10, and a fifth game would be in Windsor on Feb. 11.
