WINDSOR, N.S. — Despite a recent 7-5 loss to the East Hants Ryson Construction Penguins, the Windsor Royals Junior C team continues to play solid hockey.

Instead of worrying about a playoff berth as Christmas approaches, they are now only six points back of the third place East Hants.

In previous play

On Dec. 9, the Penguins dealt the Royals a 7-5 setback, taking 3-0 and 5-3 leads after the first and second periods. The Penguins were up 4-0 before the Royals almost tied them by scoring three in a row off the sticks of Cameron Dauphinee, Keagan Levangie and Justin MacLellan, who scored on the power-play.

The Penguins then went up 5-3 before Chad Woodill brought the Royals back to within one at 5-4.  The Penguins then scored twice to go up 7-4 before Liam Curry scored the royals fifth and final goal of the evening.

On Dec. 8 in Lantz, the Royals won their ninth game of the season by outscoring the Penguins 7-4.

Cole Godfrey opened the Royals’ scoring before Windsor’s Adam Ferguson tied it for the Penguins at 1-1 at the end of the first.

The Royals scored four unanswered goals in the middle period. Godfrey notched his second of the night and Kyle Armsworthy, who also assisted on three goals, Brandon Sullivan and Alex Kelly each added a goal to give the Royals a 5-1.

The two teams traded goals in the third. East Hants scored, which was followed by a marker from MacLellan, who also finished the night with three assists. East Hants scored again, to which Kelly responded with a goal. The Penguins then wrapped up the period’s scoring, netting their fourth and final goal in the afternoon contest.

After their sizzling 9-4 triumph over Spryfield on Nov. 24 in Windsor, the Royals lost to the Attack 3-2 on Dec 1. Windsor led 1-0 after the first, Spryfield scored three times in the second, and Windsor netted one more in the third but couldn’t find the tying goal.

Upcoming games

The Royals will finish 2018 with two games before the Christmas break.

The Royals host the Sackville Knights at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 21 at the Hants Exhibition Arena.

The next night, they travel to the Spryfield Lions Rink to take on the Attack for an 8 p.m. start.

They resume action Jan. 6 when they host the Spryfield Attack at 5 p.m.
