NEW GLASGOW, NS - Day one is complete at the 2018 Maritime Hockey League Showcase.
All twelve teams from across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI are competing for two days, Oct. 8 and 9, at the Pictou County Wellness Centre in New Glasgow.
Day one began with the Summerside Western Capitals defeating the South Shore Lumberjacks 4 - 1. The win moves the Capitals into first place in the Eastlink North Division.
The Truro Bearcats downed the Miramichi Timberwolves 3 - 1, and the Amherst Ramblers defeated the Campbellton Tigers 3 - 0.
St. Stephen, New Brunswick's County Aces defeated the Valley Wildcats 3 - 2, and the Grand Falls Rapids topped the Pictou County Weeks Crushers 2 - 1.
In the marquee match up, the Yarmouth Mariners defeated the Edmundston Blizzard 5 - 2 in a re-match of last season's championship series. Matt Barron scored a hattrick for the Mariners in their win.
On Oct. 9, Yarmouth meets Grand Falls, South Shore battles Edmundston, Valley meets Campbellton, Truro plays St. Stephen, Amherst meets Miramichi and Pictou County hosts Summerside in the final match of the day at 7 p.m.
The showcase is a chance for scouts from university, college and pro teams to see all players around the league in one place.
