WINDSOR, N.S. — The Windsor Royals are in a do or die playoff situation this weekend.
Heading into play March 2, the Royals trail the Best of Seven series three games to one.
Games 3 and 4 in the Nova Scotia Regional Junior Hockey League’s divisional semifinal against the Spryfield Attack were held in Windsor Feb. 23-24.
Disheartening would likely be the only word the Windsor Royals hockey club could use after the 9-2 loss on Feb. 24.
The loss came on the heels of a spectacular game put on by the Royals Feb. 23, when they defeated the Attack 3-1. It was a game where every player offered maximum effort from beginning to end.
The two games were so completely different that fans might not have even noticed it was the same two clubs on the ice.
In the win, the Royals came up with a superlative effort, out skating, outshooting and outscoring the Attack for the entire 60 minutes.
The two teams played a scoreless first period. The Royals began the second period with great puck control and kept the pressure on throughout the second and third periods.
Goal scorers were Tyler LaPierre, Alex Kelly and Carter Davidson, for the Royals.
Davidson tallied one goal for the Windsor team in the club’s losing effort the next night, as did Branden Schofield. Both goals were scored in the first period.
Goaltender James Brenton, who played outstanding on Feb. 23, was pulled after letting in seven goals in 37 minutes on Feb. 24, and was replaced by William Earley.
Game 5 in the series is to be played March 2 in Spryfield. If the Royals muster a win, it would force Game 6 to be played in Windsor on March 3 for a 5 p.m. start. Two wins for the Royals would force Game 7 in the series.
